A person has died following a crash involving a pedestrian and a car in Hokitika on the West Coast this morning.
Police said emergency services were called to the incident at the corner of Fitzherbert and Park Streets just before 9am.
"One person has sustained serious injuries and is being transported to hospital," police said.
In an update just before 4pm, Senior Sergeant Brent Cook said that person had died.
"Our condolences are with their family and loved ones at this difficult time."
Fitzherbert and Park streets were closed following the crash and reopened at 3pm.
Police urged anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact investigators by calling 105.
