A light magnitude 5.2 earthquake has been reported by GeoNet this afternoon.
The quake occurred 35km north-west of Te Anau, at a depth of 102km.
It struck at 3:23pm, and more than 1400 people reported feeling it on GeoNet.
Most people reported feeling "weak" or "light" shaking.
"These deep earthquakes are typically widely felt," GeoNet wrote on Facebook on Saturday afternoon.
It followed a magnitude 5.9 earthquake near Taumarunui last week and a 5.9-magnitude quake that struck north of Te Anau a week before.
Residents in the lower North and upper South Islands were jolted by a light earthquake late last night after a 4.6-magnitude quake struck at 11.09pm, 30 kilometres north-west of Porirua.
The quake was reported by nearly 9000 people across Wellington, Manawatū-Whanganui, Taranaki, and the upper South Island.
