A man has been arrested after allegedly live streaming illegal activity on TikTok in west Auckland over the weekend.
At about 6.10pm on Saturday, police said a live stream captured a motorist brandishing a machete while doing burnouts in Titirangi town centre.
Senior Sergeant Jon Winthrop said a concerned member of the public saw the broadcast and notified police of the driver's dangerous actions.
"Shortly after, the vehicle was identified near the location seen on the live stream," Winthrop said.
"The BMW was signalled to stop on Craigbank Avenue, New Lynn, and as officers spoke with the occupants, they were met by the unmistakable smell of cannabis."
Police said a search of the vehicle was then invoked, and officers found 100g of cannabis packaged into bags and 16 plastic pods of cannabis oil.
The machete that was allegedly seen in the live stream was found wedged between the passenger's seat and door, along with a 30cm-long knife in the glove box, police added.
When the driver was arrested, police said a significant quantity of cash was also found in the man's belt bag.
"This was a dangerous, attention-seeking stunt that revealed deeper levels of offending," said Winthrop.
An 18-year-old man was due to appear in Waitākere District Court today, charged with two counts of possessing an offensive weapon, possession for supply of cannabis and possession for supply of cannabis oil.
