Gisborne death 'not suspicious' police say as probe continues

The unexplained death of a man in Gisborne earlier this week is not being treated as suspicious police say, who are continuing to ask for the public's help to understand the circumstances behind it.

Detective Senior Sergeant John Love said police were called to an address at Crawford Rd in Kaitī at about 1.50am on Tuesday, July 21.

A 57-year-old man was found dead inside the property, and an investigation was immediately opened.

As part of the investigation, Love said police determined a vehicle arrived at the address and several people "caused damage to the house and vehicles at the property".

"It also appears likely a firearm was discharged at the address.

"Our enquiries have determined that the deceased, and other people at the address, were not injured by the intruders."

The death has been referred to the Coroner.

Anyone who can assist with police inquiries is asked to contact 105. Information could also be provided anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
