Australian MP Barnaby Joyce has joined the Today morning show to explain the bizarre on camera outburst directed at his dog while being interviewed on Monday.
Joyce, who has recently joined Pauline Hanson’s One Nation party, was being asked questions on ABC News about Hanson meeting with a controversial far-right activist in the UK.
During the interview he yelled “sit down!” while being pressed on his defence of Hanson, before he followed up with "sorry, it's the dog," with a laugh.
Joyce joined Today this morning to explain what had happened, and brought along his dog Stella, who is a staffy-border collie cross.
His attitude towards Stella today was much different than from earlier in the week.

“You’re famous darling,” he said, while patting her.
He then explained what had happened during the Monday interview with Sarah Ferguson.
“You couldn’t hear it but she was right underneath my feet, underneath the deck, and just barking.
“And I couldn’t hear Sarah at first - not a great loss - and I couldn’t hear the questions, and I’m sort of winging it.”
Joyce claimed the distraction had caused him to not be “on the balls of my toes”. “I’m not playing the good shots.”
“So I’m getting a little bit angry, then I’m getting really angry,” he said, before going on to add it was something he wasn’t proud of.
“I verbally assaulted the dog, which I’m incredibly sorry for.”
