A funeral service will be held next week for an infant that was found dead on the side of a road in Blenheim earlier this year.
On May 19, police were called to Wairau Bar Rd just before 1.30pm after a machinery operator found the infant's body. A post-mortem examination later confirmed the baby was stillborn.
The service will be held at Fairhall Cemetery children's memorial area on Wednesday, July 29 at 10.30am.
Detective Sergeant Jason Hillgrove said local businesses and community groups had "generously donated time, services, and resources" to assist with arrangements for the funeral service.
He added that police were continuing to work to identify any family members through forensic inquiries.
“We are still concerned for the welfare of the mother. We would like to ensure she is safe and can receive any appropriate treatment or support,” he said.
Anyone with information relevant to the investigation was encouraged to contact police via 105.
