Police have confirmed the cause of death for an infant found on the side of the road in Blenheim last month.
On May 19, police were called to Wairau Bar Rd just before 1.30pm after a machinery operator found the infant's body.
Today, police Inspector Simon Feltham said a post-mortem examination had found the baby was stillborn.
"Police are still urgently appealing for the family of the infant to come forward, as we are concerned for the welfare of the mother.
"We would like to ensure she is safe and can receive any appropriate treatment or support."
Feltham added police would also like to discuss options with the family around the baby's remains.
Anyone with information which may help police locate the mother or other family are asked to get in touch with police via 105, either over the phone or online.
