A car has crashed into a central Auckland building, , causing "extensive damage", after a two-vehicle collision at a busy intersection.
Emergency services were called to the intersection of New North and Mount Eden roads at about 12.10pm on Monday after reports of a two vehicle crash, with one vehicle colliding with a nearby building.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand responded with three crews from Auckland City, Balmoral and Papatoetoe.
One person suffered minor injuries. The intersection was partly blocked while emergency services responded and the building was evacuated as a precaution.
Footage from the scene showed the front of the vehicle lodged into the building, with smashed glass and debris scattered across the footpath.
A FENZ spokesperson told 1News the building had sustained “extensive damage” and was being assessed by fire crews. An Auckland Council engineer was requested to carry out a further structural assessment.
A 1News staffer at the scene said the damaged building was Puen Eatery & Bar, on the corner of New North and Mount Eden roads.
The area had been cordoned off and the vehicle was towed away this afternoon.
Inquiries into the circumstances of the crash remained ongoing.
Auckland Council has been contacted for further comment.
