A person was injured during a late-night altercation in Auckland's Ōtara where a gun had been fired, but police say the injuries do not appear to come from a gunshot.
Police received a report of several people involved in an altercation on Vickerman St at around 10.30pm on Monday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Veronica McPherson said it appeared a person had fired a gun while another person had been injured.
"Upon arrival one person was located with injuries, however these injuries were not consistent with a gunshot wound."

Footage captured by 1News showed armed police at the scene, and a man in handcuffs with a bandage wrapped around his left thigh.
Police have not released details of the injured person’s condition, or how many people were involved in the altercation.
McPherson said police had launched a number of inquiries.
"Police are working hard to identify and locate the people responsible."
Anyone with information, or who witnessed the incident, was urged to contact police.
St John has been contacted for comment.
