A luxury Queenstown property is about to hit the market – and could be New Zealand’s highest property sale of the year if it sells at its expected $35 million.

New Zealand Southby’s International Realty managing director and listing co-agent Mark Harris said the 4065 sqm property is a legacy estate that’s likely to command one of NZ’s highest-ever residential property prices.

The highest property price in New Zealand was a $45.5 million 19-hectare Queenstown estate which sold in 2023.

The Mason & Wales-designed home features five-bedrooms, six-bathrooms, multiple expansive living areas, an opulent bar, home cinema, library, sunroom, wine cellar, a sculptural spiral staircase and a secluded guest wing.

Harris said the property was “architecturally significant” and is placed in one of the country’s most beautiful locations.

“It’s a masterpiece crafted from the highest quality materials, offering exceptional privacy while remaining effortlessly accessible. It ticks every box for buyers seeking the ultimate NZ hideaway.

“This is undoubtedly one of the country’s finest estates… it is a property that represents the very best qualities of the desirable Southern Lakes.”

The property is being listed for the first time on the New Zealand and Australian market.

Southby’s said the 1115 sqm residence had previously been discreetly marketed to international investors via Sotheby’s International Realty, and this is the first time it’s been listed on the New Zealand and Australian markets.

“This property has generated a lot of global interest; however, due to the unique scale and provenance of the estate, it ideally warrants a buyer with a strong connection to Queenstown and NZ to fully appreciate its magnitude,” said listing co-agent Myles Green.

It is being sold by negotiation.
