A pedestrian has been killed in a crash involving a vehicle south-west of Hamilton this morning.

State Highway 39/Kakaramea Road south of Whatawhata is closed following the crash, which occurred between Koromatua Road and Higgison Road around 6.40am.

In an update after 10.30pm, police said the pedestrian had died at the scene.

"Motorists are advised to avoid the area."
