Strong winds forecast for Auckland tomorrow "may impact travel across the Auckland Harbour Bridge", according to NZTA.
It followed a days of heavy rain and strong winds across the North Island, and snow closing some highways in the South Island today.
This afternoon, New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) said strong winds were expected from 1pm until 6pm tomorrow.
"Winds gusting 85-95km/h are forecast. A few gusts could reach 90-95km/h, triggering a full closure of all lanes for a short period," an NZTA spokesperson said.
Drivers were reminded to drive to the conditions and pay attention to electronic message boards on the motorway, which would advise of any speed restrictions or lane closures.
In a midday update, MetService meterologist John Law said there would be "plenty happening over the next few days" as a deep low-pressure system meant powerful winds and rain would continue tomorrow.
An orange strong wind warning for Wellington and parts of Marlborough was in place from this evening into Friday evening, with damaging southerlies gusting 130km/h in exposed places.
Multiple strong wind watches were in effect for Northland north of Whangārei, Taranaki, Whanganui, Horowhenua, Kapiti Coast, Buller, Grey, and Westland districts, also until Friday evening.
The forecaster said a heavy rain watch was in effect for Gisborne/Tairāwhiti and the Wairoa District as well as the southern parts of Wairarapa and Wellington.
"Snow over the higher mountain roads could also make for some hazardous driving conditions," said Law.
Anyone planning to travel on the roads was urged to check the latest road snowfall warnings, and drive to the conditions.
