Man's body found on western shore of Lake Tekapo

The body of a man was seen in the shallows on the western shore of Lake Tekapo on June 17 shortly before 9am.

A man's body has been found on the shore of Lake Tekapo.

Sergeant Warwick Worth said officers were called after a report that the body of a man was seen in the shallows on the western shore of Lake Tekapo yesterday shortly before 9am.

Police, along with other emergency services, attended and "sadly the man was declared deceased at the scene".

Worth said inquiries into the circumstances of the death were ongoing, however "it was not being treated as suspicious".

"Police can confirm this incident does not relate to the earlier incident on June 12 where the body of another person was retrieved from the lake," he added.

The man was not believed to have family in New Zealand, and police have made contact with the relevant consulate in order for next of kin to be notified overseas.

The death has been referred to the Coroner.
