Horror Sydney pram crash: Victim had just won award at kindy

The two children named as Katherine and Harry with their parents.

The 5-year-old girl killed alongside her baby brother in a horrific Sydney crash had just won an award at kindergarten and was "excited" to go home.

The two children, aged 5 and 1, died in hospital after the pram they were in was struck by an SUV while they crossed the road in Cabramatta, in Sydney's southwest, on Wednesday.

Despite efforts from witnesses, who rushed to pull the children from the crash, their injuries were unsurvivable.

In a GoFundMe created to support the family, the children were named as Katherine and Harry.

Katherine, 5, and Harry, 1, were killed in a horrific Sydney crash.

The page's creator, Patrick Te, said the children's mother, Sok, had just picked Katherine up from school.

"Katherine, who was in her first year of kindergarten, was excited to go home after just receiving an award."

Te said the tragedy was "extremely difficult to comprehend".

"A mother not only lost a child — she lost both of her children, her only two children.

"As a parent myself, I cannot even begin to fathom the long road ahead for both the mother and father. Regardless of who is at fault, their journey to recovery will be incredibly difficult."

The two children died in hospital following the crash.

He said donations to the page would go towards supporting the family.

"It doesn’t look like things will get any easier anytime soon — it’s a long road ahead, and they deserve all the help they can get.

"As a community, I pray we can come together and ease some of their burden."

Acting Superintendent Timothy Calman said a number of drivers stopped and collectively moved the vehicle onto its side, tipping it to get one of the children out from under it, while others provided CPR.

"The community involved here this afternoon was, I can only say, phenomenal," he told reporters.

The mother was treated for minor injuries at the scene, while the driver of the SUV was uninjured and taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

He was released pending further inquiries.
