An alleged street race on Auckland's North Shore reached speeds nearly twice the limit, police say.
Police responded to reports of the race on William Pickering Drive in Rosedale on Saturday night.
Inspector Jason Edwards said an unmarked police car came across the two Hondas allegedly "lining up to race".
“Concerningly, they were allegedly detected travelling at 92 km/h.”
Both cars were impounded, and the drivers had their licences suspended.
Two men, aged 21 and 33, will appear in the North Shore District Court next month, charged with operating a vehicle in a race.
Police said it was "aware" that the road was frequently used for street races, and that it was patrolled "accordingly".
Edwards said it was "fortunate that an unsuspecting member of the public has not come across this pair travelling at high speed".
“Let’s be very clear that public roads are not for racing.
“We will continue to respond to this dangerous activity, and you will be held accountable, including taking your pride and joy off your hands.”
