An Auckland man has been arrested after allegedly stealing thousands of dollars' worth of chocolate over recent months.
The man, described by police as a "recidivist shoplifter", was allegedly responsible for more than $9000 worth of stolen goods in one Auckland area.
The 35-year-old was arrested on the weekend and faces 21 charges. He was also remanded in custody.
Inspector Wayne Kitcher said 19 of the charges related to shoplifting incidents across Auckland and said: “It appears this person has allegedly targeted chocolate from various supermarkets."
In one instance, the man allegedly pinched more than $3000 worth of chocolate from a supermarket in Te Atatū.
The man appeared in the Auckland District Court over the weekend, and was due to reappear on August 26.
“Police is continuing to target prolific offending against retail businesses in our communities.” Kitcher said.
