Green Party co-leader Marama Davidson has apologised for speeding on the Kapiti Expressway on Sunday.

In an Instagram story posted by fellow Green MP Hūhana Lyndon, Davidson could be seen driving at 121km/h, 11km/h over the 110km/h speed limit for that stretch of SH1.

The video has since disappeared from Lyndon's account.

Screengrabs from the video showing Green Party co-leader Marama Davidson going 121km/h on SH1.

Davidson made a post addressing it last night, saying "Mo taku hē", which could be roughly translated from te reo Māori to mean "my mistake, I apologise".

"I completely accept this was my error, and not one I take lightly. We have speed limits for a reason, and the safety of my passenger and other road users is not negotiable," she wrote.

"A teachable moment for me."

The Green Party has advocated against raising the speed limits of both highways and residential roads.
