Five teens arrested after Christchurch knifepoint car theft

Five teenagers have been arrested after allegedly stealing a man's car at knifepoint in Christchurch last night.

Police were called to to the intersection of Dacre St and Buckleys Rd in Linwood at 7.50pm, a spokesperson said.

Officers spotted the stolen car around an hour and a half later and deployed road spikes.

There was a brief pursuit, abandoned due to the manner of driving. The car was then spotted heading onto Glencoe St.

"The occupants fled on foot and were located by a police dog unit a short time later."

The teenagers were taken into custody and will face a range of charges.

"The victim was uninjured but very shaken up by the incident."
