'Defining moment': TVNZ reveals FIFA World Cup event pass pricing

The tournament runs from June 12 to July 20.

TVNZ has revealed the price to watch every FIFA World Cup game live and an array of daily highlights and analysis – a one-off payment of $44.95.

The broadcaster has today confirmed its move into offering an event pass allowing fans to watch all 104 matches live at the tournament.

The World Cup will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico from June 12-July 20 NZT with football’s greatest showcase marking the first time TVNZ has charged the public for content.

An event pass can be purchased here from today.

TVNZ chief executive Jodi O'Donnell said the event was a “defining moment” as the business evolved to a digitally-led media company.

“Delivering our first paid product is something we are incredibly proud of,” she said. “We are expanding our offering to give viewers more choice and control over how they watch the content they love with us.

"Free-to-air, ad-funded content remains at the heart of what we do. But the TVNZ+ Event Pass lets us go further, broadening what content we can bring audiences and creates a new revenue stream for TVNZ.

“This is so we can keep investing in world-class content for New Zealanders to enjoy and ensure TVNZ remains relevant for the future."

TVNZ will also screen some World Cup matches live on free-to-air TV – including the All Whites’ matches against Belgium, Egypt and Iran.

But event pass holders will be able to watch all 104 matches live and on-demand, along with exclusive clips and highlights packages.

Last last month the broadcaster launched its new TVNZ+ digital streaming platform and expects to deliver a “seamless, world-class viewing experience”.

TVNZ head of sports, events & partnerships Melodie Robinson said Kiwis who purchase an event pass will not miss a moment of the tournament.

"There's also plenty to watch on free-to-air for viewers who want to follow the All Whites or catch some of the big matches too.

"We want all Kiwis to be able to get in on the action. The breadth of our coverage gives viewers maximum choice and we're really proud to be the home of the FIFA World Cup 2026."
