US singer Lionel Richie is in an intensive care unit in St. Louis, after he was hospitalised after a show, according to local media reports.
The 77-year-old reportedly checked himself in to the hospital after failing to finish the concert on Sunday, according to TMZ.
The music icon had been performing at The Muny in Forest Park and according to fans who were in the crowd, he was struggling towards the end of the show.
At one point, it was reported that the singer asked his team to bring him a chair to perform his final song All Night Long.
There had been concern for his health lately, as in June he was forced to end a show in Minnesota early after he felt dizzy while singing Dancing on the Ceiling.
He then told the crowd it was the first time he’d ever performed the song like that.
"When you’re feeling dizzy, sit your arse down," he joked at the time.
The global pop icon rose to fame in the late 1970s and '80s with his contributions to funk act the Commodores, before branching off with solo singles including Hello and We Are the World.
In 1981 Richie hit No.1 with Endless Love, a duet with Diana Ross, setting the stage for a phenomenally successful solo career.
He went on to release hits including Truly in 1982, All Night Long in 1983, Hello and Stuck on You in 1984 and Three Times a Lady in 1978, recorded during his time with The Commodores.
