Plane crashes on the outskirts of South Sudan's capital, killing 14

6:58pm
Thirteen passengers and the pilot were killed when the light aircraft went down on the outskirts of South Sudan's capital.

A Cessna aircraft crashed Monday on the outskirts of South Sudan's capital, killing all 13 passengers and the pilot, the civil aviation authority said.

The authority said preliminary reports indicated that the plane arriving from Yei town may have crashed due to weather conditions that caused poor visibility.

It said the dead included two Kenyans, and the rest were South Sudanese.

The authority said a team was dispatched to the site about 20km outside Juba.

Videos of the crash site shared on social media showed remains of the aircraft in flames. The location shown appeared hilly and misty.
