One person has been critically injured and another arrested after an alleged assault in west Auckland yesterday.

Emergency services were called to a residential property in Ranui around 7pm.

"One person has sustained critical injuries and is being transported to hospital," a police spokesperson said.

Initial inquiries indicate those involved were known to each other.
