A dog has been rescued from a 13th-storey ledge on a Sydney high-rise two days after going missing.

Elbie, a two-year-old Jack Russell terrier, disappeared on Saturday after squeezing through a gap on the balcony of her home on the 13th floor at the Meriton apartments in Dee Why.

A friend of Elbie's worried owners, James Tomack, told Channel 9 News they had scoured the entire apartment but found no trace of her.

"We start thinking the worst possible thing, maybe she fell off the balcony."

After raising the alarm, a neighbour flying a drone yesterday spotted Elbie stuck between the awning of a ledge – on the other side of the apartment block.

A firefighter managed to free Elbie after 20 minutes of wrangling as a crowd below erupted into cheers.

Owner Jake Dobrin said he was "over the moon" to be reunited with her.

"I didn't know if I was going to see her again, so very happy."

Elbie spent the night at the vets after her stressful ordeal.
