Christopher Luxon survived a motion of confidence at National's caucus meeting this morning.
The Prime Minister called the motion as the party’s MPs gathered in Wellington for the first time in three weeks, on the back of poor polling and speculation about Luxon’s leadership.
MPs heading into Parliament offered Luxon their support. Chief whip Stuart Smith didn't attend ththe caucus, citing a "longstanding personal appointment".
The meeting went on longer than usual, with Speaker Gerry Brownlee making a rare appearance – the Speaker does not normally attend.
Luxon, flanked by National deputy Nicola Willis, read a statement saying he had the support of his caucus but refused to take questions.
