Names of pair who died in Foxton Beach fire released

Police have released the names of the two people who died in a large house fire which broke out in Foxton Beach last week.

They were 79-year-old Thomas Muliaga, and 71-year-old Fiona Cameron.

On Tuesday, December 9, crews were called out to the house fire on Queen Street at Foxton Beach shortly after 5am.

The area is located about 5km west of Foxton and 90 minutes north of Wellington.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand said at the time the building had sustained significant damage and was considered structurally compromised.

Today, police said the investigation into the fire had concluded.

It was not believed to be suspicious, and the deaths would be referred to the Coroner.

In a notice posted by Gardenview Funeral Services, Cameron was described as a "cherished grandmother of all her grandkids".

A funeral notice for Muliaga said he was the "dearly loved husband of the late Carol".
