Athletes in action: Medal chances loom in kayaking, sailing and track cycling

New Zealand women's K4- Olivia Brett, Lisa Carrington, Alicia Hoskin and Tara Vaughan in their heat.

New Zealand's medal haul hit double figures early today and our best chances to add to that tally on day 13 come in kayaking, sailing and track cycling.

The New Zealand medal hopes begin with sailors Micah Wilkinson and Erica Dawson in the mixed multihull race at Marseille. Scheduled for 10.18pm, the Kiwi duo is sitting fourth - level on points with third-placed Great Britain - heading into the medal race, which was postponed last night. Gold is out of reach, but bronze or silver are a possibility.

Our Kiwi kayakers return in the women's K4 500m final with Lisa Carrington, Alicia Hoskin, Olivia Brett and Tara Vaughan lining up. They were second fastest in the heats. Carrington is shooting for a seventh Olympic medal and possibly a sixth gold in the final just before midnight. The men K4 500m have a semifinal and potential final tonight as well.

Reigning world champion Ellesse Andrews claimed silver in the women's keirin final in Tokyo and goes into the event as one of the medal favourites. Andrews won her heat to advance to the quarterfinals, while Rebecca Petch made it in through via the repechage. They will be looking to add to the two silver medals earned by the track cycling team in the early hours of Friday morning.

Speed climber Julian David returns to the wall to face the current world record holder, Lydia Ko will tee off in the women's golf hoping to improve on her first round placing of 13th tied, and Aaron Gate will pedal for a medal at the velodrome in the four-event omnium.

Julian David celebrates making the quarterfinals at Paris 2024.
