Police have named an Australian man who died after setting out on a fishing trip at Lake Benmore last month.
Night-vision-equipped helicopters were deployed on February 19 alongside land search and rescue teams, a day after he was reported missing.
His body was found dead near a trail entrance to a car park at the lake, according to police.
Today, police named him as Anthony Otworowski, 63, of Australia.
"Police express their condolences to the family at this difficult time," a spokesperson said.
"We also extend our thanks to search and rescue and Coastguard volunteers, whose dedication and professionalism resulted in finding Mr Otworoski, enabling him to be returned to his family."
Lake Benmore was one of the country's most fished lakes, with Omarama and Twizel being its nearest towns. The man-made lake was established almost 60 years ago for hydro-electric power generation near the border between Canterbury and Otago.
