Russell Brand denies 'very hurtful' sexual abuse allegations

Comedian and actor Russell Brand has denied all allegations against him and described the impact as "very, very hurtful" in a new interview.

In a new interview posted to YouTube on Wednesday, Brand told former Fox News host Tucker Carlson that the impact of the allegations was "very, very hurtful".

Brand, 48, denied all allegations of rape, assault, and emotional abuse between 2006 and 2013 made against him following a joint investigation by the Times, the Sunday Times and the investigative TV show Dispatches.

He said it was very painful to be accused of "the most appalling crimes".

"I'm aware that I put myself in an extremely vulnerable position by being very, very promiscuous. That is not the type of conduct I endorse, and it's certainly not how I would live now," Brand said.

"Of course, I deny any allegations of the kind that have been advanced — and what I have seen is the significance of family and the importance of beliefs that are transcendent of this".

This is the first time Brand has been publicly interviewed, but he has previously denied the allegations on his own social media channels.

Also during the 46-minute-long interview, the actor said he was "fostered and adored and celebrated, and lived the kind of lifestyle that was kind of common for people in that arena, for single people, and in my case drug and alcohol people... certainly with an appetite for a promiscuous lifestyle".

"When I was part of it, I found it empty and fulfilling," he said.

The allegations against Brand also included controlling, abusive and predatory behaviour, which he denied.

Internal investigations were currently underway from both The BBC and Channel 4 about his time working for them.
