Former National Party leader Simon Bridges was admitted to hospital with a broken wrist after falling off an e-scooter in Auckland this afternoon.

The former MP, who now leads the Auckland Business Chamber, posted about his ordeal on social media, thanking an "amazing family" who came to his aid.

In a photo, Bridges appeared with bruises on his face and his arm in a cast.

"This afternoon I hit a bump while I was on an electric scooter. I hurt my face and broke my wrist, but I'm hugely grateful it wasn't worse," he wrote.

"I'm so incredibly thankful to the amazing family who stopped and helped me and waited for the ambulance with me.

"I don't know who they are, but they were incredibly kind to me. I'm also deeply grateful to the staff at Auckland City Hospital who have been brilliant."

Bridges was National Party leader from 2018 until he was deposed months out from the 2020 election. He served as a Cabinet Minister in John Key's National government.

Bridges' mishap follows National MP Chris Bishop, who had a "debacle of a morning" after he also fell off an e-scooter, whilst in Auckland during his government's coalition negotiations.
