Dame Jacinda Ardern has only three words to describe her picturesque Hawke's Bay wedding.

The former prime minister posted a photo on Monday evening of herself and her husband Clarke Gayford on social media with a to-the-point caption: "13.01.24 ❤️ Worth the wait."

After a very public delay of almost two years, Dame Jacinda and Gayford exchanged vows during a small and intimate ceremony at a Hawke's Bay vineyard on Saturday.

Photographs show the former world leader smiling in her wedding dress as she embraces her new husband.

Dame Jacinda Ardern and Clarke Gayford were wed in Hawke's Bay today.

Famous faces among the guestlist included fashion designer Juliette Hogan and celebrity chef Peter Gordon.

Also in attendance to officiate was Dame Jacinda's friend and Labour MP Grant Robertson. Opposition leader Chris Hipkins, former Parliamentary speaker and ex-senior Labour MP Sir Trevor Mallard, Labour MP Kelvin Davis, and Annette King, the High Commissioner of New Zealand to Australia also joined the small gathering.

Earlier in the day, around 30 protesters made an appearance outside the wedding venue, with several spoken to by police.

The couple celebrated their nuptials nearly a decade after their first date, and nearly two years after their first attempt at a wedding – which was cancelled due to Covid-19.

Dame Jacinda and Gayford became engaged over the Easter break in 2019, whilst Ardern was serving her first term as prime minister. They have known each other since 2012.
