Woman critically injured after car hits her in Tāneatua

A woman is fighting for her life after she was hit by a car in Tāneatua, near Whakatāne, earlier this afternoon.

Emergency services were first called to the incident on Grace Road at 12.15pm.

"The woman is being airlifted to hospital," a police spokesperson said. "A section of Grace Road will be closed to allow the serious crash unit to examine the scene."
