Former Wallabies captain Stirling Mortlock isn’t beating around the bush when it comes to an assessment of how the All Blacks might fare under new head coach Scott Robertson.

“Yeaaaah that’s… that’s not very nice,” he tells 1News with a smile.

“Razor, I played against him, he was a legend of a player and a great guy and you can just see any team he coaches he gets it. All his people love him.”

Mortlock played 80 tests for the Wallabies and captained the team in 2006.

As Australia gets set for a big rebuild after their horror Rugby World Cup campaign, he’s wary of an All Blacks side coming under the management of the former Crusaders guru.

“You can tell he’s a great man manager,” he said, while praising the enjoyment and culture he senses from teams Robertson’s coached.

“I think it’s pretty scary that he’s going to be the coach now, because there’s a lot to like about how he goes about his business and what outcomes and outputs he gets.”

“I’ll be an interested bystander but I’m assuming its going be great outcomes for the All Blacks for the next period of time.”

It’s a period in which the Wallabies will be desperate to show improvement, after being knocked out of this year’s World Cup in France before the quarter-finals for the first time in the team’s history.

Rugby Australia’s since lost its head coach after a messy split with Eddie Jones, while chair Hamish McLennan also resigned during the fallout.
