BBM Foodbank is teaming up with the Middlemore Foundation to give kids in need the best Christmas ever.
A massive treat day, food parcels and ongoing support through the Christmas season is on the way to give sick, disabled or children living with long term health conditions a helping hand.
BBM Foodbank owner David Letele told Breakfast thousands of children across Aotearoa are living with these conditions and in some cases, in extreme poverty.
This is why Letele is setting kids up for “a Christmas we all deserve”.
On December 21, will be a massive “treat day”, where face painting, free ice cream, farm animals and a photo opportunity with Santa is waiting for kids in need.
Then, food parcels are given to whanau, with the contents based off of what Letele’s mum put down for her Christmas shopping list.
“She went out on a Christmas shop and wrote down everything like you and I when we go shopping for our whanau.
“We base our food parcels on that, there’s hams, strawberries, bananas, pavlova.”
Letele added the charity collaboration will also support families through Christmas, and “not just on the day”.
“It’s extremely tough out there, it’s tough for us to raise the funds as well to give these kids an amazing [Christmas]."
