New cruise ship to feature 'hybrid rollercoaster and waterslide'

November 3, 2023

A US cruise line has announced they will be debuting a "hybrid rollercoaster and waterslide" on their new ship.

Norwegian Cruise Line, a Miami-based brand, is known for its innovative concepts, including a three-level go-kart track onboard a ship as well as free-fall dry slides.

Their latest idea is set to be a "world first" - a "hybrid rollercoaster and waterslide" on their ship Norwegian Aqua, which hits the waves in 2025.

The company is promising guests a three-storey high attraction, which will snake around the ship's funnel.

"Complete with exhilarating dual slides and a magnetic lift that propels adventurous guests through two different courses.

"This NCL exclusive experience will feature three stories of exciting twists and turns around the ship's funnel," Norwegian Cruise Line said in a statement.

Another attraction will be a neon-lit "glow court", described as a “digital sports complex complete with an interactive LED floor”.

During the day, the space will be for a range of different activities, transforming into a nightclub later in the evening.

The drop slides and other activities the brand is known for will also make a return on the Aqua.

Accommodating 3571 guests, the Aqua is set to be 10% larger than its sister ships.

A concept design for the Norwegian Aqua.

Guests will be able to sleep in a variety of rooms, including two-storey suites which have their own living rooms and dining areas.

The ship will start by offering a series of seven-day cruises around the Caribbean.
