Portuguese police have apologised to Madeleine McCann’s parents.

Madeleine went missing from her family’s holiday accommodation at the Portugal resort of Praia da Luz in 2007.

Despite an extensive police operation, in which several people, including her parents, were officially made suspects, nobody has ever been held to account for her disappearance.

Kate McCann has previously said she was offered a deal by police during the investigation that involved admitting to covering up her daughter's death.

The British 3-year-old disappeared in 2007 while on holiday with her family in Portugal.

Senior officials travelled from Lisbon to London to meet with the family earlier this year and apologise for how detectives treated them during the investigation.

The BBC reported that the family has not commented on the apology.

The disappearance remains unsolved and there's still no evidence to prove if Madeleine is dead or not.
