Person dies following crash in Gisborne

One person has died on Monday following a single-car crash in Gisborne.

Emergency services were alerted to the crash on Matawai Road, in Waerengaahika, on Sunday shortly after 4.40pm, police said.

"Police offer their sympathies to the whānau and friends of the deceased," police said.

Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.

The holiday road toll now stands at 13.
