Man charged after woman critically injured in Taupō stabbing

An Auckland man has been charged in relation to the stabbing of a woman in Taupō on Sunday.

A woman was stabbed in Motutere, Taupo District, on Sunday around 12.30pm, Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Rawlinson said in a statement.

A 49-year-old man is due to appear in the Rotorua District Court on Monday charged with attempted murder, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and aggravated assault.

The victim remains in a critical condition in Waikato Hospital.
