There are 28 new Covid-19 cases in the community on Friday, down from 49 on Thursday.
Of the new cases, 27 are in Auckland and one is in Wellington. The Wellington case is a close contact and was already in managed isolation.
"While this fall in today's numbers is encouraging, we are mindful that these outbreaks can have a long tail and we can't afford to become complacent," Director of Public Health Dr Caroline McElnay said.
"Based on the latest modelling, the reproductive number [of the virus] likely remains below one showing that we have been successful, we are being successful in breaking the chains of transmission."
Twenty-five of Friday's cases have been epidemiologically linked to the current Auckland Delta outbreak.
As well, 632 cases to date have been sequenced and all linked to the outbreak.
The total number of cases in this outbreak is now 764.
Meanwhile, 33 cases in this outbreak have now recovered, bringing the total number of active cases to 731.
There are 43 Covid-positive people in this outbreak in hospital, all of which are in Auckland. Nine are currently in intensive care, three of which are on a ventilator.
McElnay said her thoughts were with their family and whānau.
As of 9am, there are 37,620 individual contacts identified, of which 31,668 (84 per cent) have been followed up by contact tracers and were isolating.
As well, 87 per cent of all contacts have had at least one test.
There are currently 261 locations of interest on the Ministry of Health's website .
On Thursday, 12,796 tests for Covid-19 were carried out in New Zealand, including 6460 in Auckland.
The total number of tests for the virus in New Zealand since the pandemic began is now 3.03 million.
Friday's update comes after a Covid-positive man was charged with escaping from managed isolation in Auckland on Thursday.
There was no unexpected Covid-19 wastewater test results.
As well today, there were four new Covid-19 cases found at the border.
Three of the new cases arrived in Auckland from Afghanistan on August 28. They tested positive between arrival and day three in managed isolation.
The fourth border case today arrived in Hamilton from Sri Lanka via the United Arab Emirates. They tested positive on arrival.
