Former All Blacks coach Sir Graham Henry has joined the chorus of voices backing Liam Squire to hear his name called out at today's Rugby World Cup squad announcement.

Sir Graham was on TVNZ1's Breakfast this morning ahead of today's announcement to discuss the team and the World Cup when the topic of Squire's late recall came up.

"They haven't really found that No.6," he said.

"He's done it before, they've got confidence in him and he's playing well for Tasman so I think [he'll] be in the side."

Squire hasn't played for the All Blacks since last year's 16-9 loss to Ireland in Dublin and after a Super Rugby season wrecked by injuries, the 28-year-old made himself unavailable for selection for this year's Rugby Championship.

But Squire reportedly told All Blacks management recently he's made himself available for selection again after a successful return to the field with the Mako in three injury-free Mitre 10 Cup matches.

Helping the 23-Test flanker's case is the fact that All Blacks coach Steve Hansen has said consistently throughout the process he would still be considered if he wanted to be.

Hansen announces the 31-man squad at midday today.
