Hurricanes skipper TJ Perenara has revealed today that there is a possibility he will move into first-five, if Beauden Barrett goes down during their Super Rugby match against the Highlanders tomorrow.

The Hurricanes have named just two backs on the bench for their Dunedin clash, leaving the Wellington Super Rugby franchise with limited first-five back-ups.

Reserve Finlay Christie is a halfback with Matt Proctor only experienced in covering the midfield and outside backs.

"If something went wrong and Baz [Beauden Barrett] goes down there could be a possibility that I run out at 10 for a little bit," Perenara told reporters today in Wellington.

"It's a position that I haven't played a lot at professional level, but I was comfortable in younger grades and I played there against the Waratahs earlier on in the year.

"If it happens it happens, we have some pretty good players that could slot in there as well."

Perenara says Beauden's younger brother Jordie will be the likely option to play at 10 if anything happens to their starting first-five.

"There's the likes of Jordie [Barrett] that has played a bit of 10 in his time, so he could end up there too."

The Highlanders will be looking for redemption against the Hurricanes, currently on a three-game losing streak.

They went down to the Canes 22-25 last month in their round three clash in Wellington.
