Violent attack on two Middlemore Hospital nurses sparks rally for 'safe parking'

Staff at Auckland's Middlemore Hospital rallied this afternoon, calling for safer parking.

It follows an attack on two nurses early Saturday morning near the entrance to the Western Campus carpark. One of the nurses was left with broken bones.

This isn't the first time staff have protested over the issue. In December last year, they also rallied outside the hospital.

Sela Ikavuka, a NZ Nurses Organisation delegate, said: "We just want to be able to come to work, look after the people that we have to look after, give them 110% and not worry about going home. Just provide us with safe parking."

In a statement, the Counties Manukau District Health Board says since last year it's been increasing security, including the installation of cameras across all car parks and improved lighting.
