A strange rescue has taken place in a small German town after an obese rat became stuck in a manhole cover.
The call came in to volunteer firefighters on Sunday afternoon local time, the BBC reports.
"She had a lot of winter flab and was stuck fast at her hip - there was no going forward or back," animal rescuer Michael Sehr told local media.
Some questioned why so much effort was expended saving the large rodent.
"Even animals that are hated by many deserve respect," Mr Sehr responded.
