A power outage casued by "unusually high temperatures" is causing commuter chaos in Wellington, shutting down trains during rush hour.
The Hutt Valley line is suspended, affecting around 7000 passengers, while the Johnsonville Line has now reopened.
Replacement Metlink bus services are currently accepting train tickets.
A statement from KiwiRail General Manager of Operations, Anthony Mills blames today's heat for the disruptions.
"Unusually high temperatures have affected the wires that provide the overhead power supply on the Hutt and Johnsonville lines, leading to the cancellation of services on those lines in the meantime.
"Services are expected to return to normal once temperatures fall, in time for peak tomorrow. We regret the inconvenience to commuters," he told 1 NEWS.
Metlink says that all Wairarapa services will be running but may experience delays, while the Kapiti Line is now running on speed restrictions due to heat.
