Black Caps batsman Ross Taylor says that the side are hurting after last night's series surrendering loss to India in Mount Maunganui, but admitted that the better side had triumphed as India claimed honours with two matches still to play.

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, New Zealand could only muster 243 in the first innings, bowled out after 49 overs, before India strolled to a seven wicket victory, taking an unassailable 3-0 series lead.

Speaking to media at Bay Oval last night, Taylor - who top scored with 93 - praised India for their dominance in the three completed matches so far.

"You've just got to give credit to the Indians," he began.

"They've just been far too good in all three matches, and we just haven't been up to it.

"If we're brutally honest, with bat and ball, we haven't been able to penetrate. We back ourselves to keep wickets in hand with the bat, we haven't been able to do that.

"India have put us under pressure for long periods of time, and got wickets at crucial times. In New Zealand, if you're three or four [wickets] down with 25 overs to go, you're still a long way behind the game.

"We fought hard today, but [it] just wasn't good enough."
