Coastguard conducting shore line search in Northland after kayak discovered with no one in it

A shore line search is being conducted in Northland after a kayak was discovered with no one in it today.

A Whangaroa Coastguard spokesperson told 1 NEWS a yellow "sit on style" kayak was found by a member of the public, around 150m northeast of the Cavalli Island chain in Northland.

Nothing but fresh fish was found in the vessel.

The Coastguard noted that it had been raining in the area recently, however there was no rain water in the kayak.
