Police have released the probable cause and name of the man who died as the result of an explosion at a property in Henderson, Auckland on Monday evening.

He was 39-year-old Howard Clinton Miller of Swanson.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and ultimately the matter will be considered by the Coroner, however initial indications are that Mr Miller had gone to a friend’s house to help weld an exhaust onto a car.

Police say that speculation on social media that the explosion was a clan lab, is not the case.

The matter has been referred to the Coroner.
