One person has suffered minor injuries after a house was hit by pellets from duck shooters near the Clutha River, in the South Island.
Police have told 1 NEWS this has been the only duck shooting-related incident around the country so far today.
An estimated 40,000 Kiwis hunkered down for the opening weekend of duck shooting season.
There were no fatalities last season and officials will be hoping for the same this season.
Police are reminding shooters to be mindful of their line of sight and how far shot can travel.
Police and fish and game rangers are also warning shooters that guns and booze don't mix.
The season continues for three months.
