A huge roar greeted round 150 New Zealand athletes as they were lead into Carrara Stadium by Sophie Pascoe, as the Commonwealth Games opened on the Gold Coast this evening.
They were accompanied by around 50 officials with some athletes missing the event to concentrate on events on tomorrow's opening day.
But among the Kiwi athletes present and having a blast was netball sharp shooter Maria Folau and rower turned road cyclist Hamish Bond.
Athletes in action tomorrow include our cyclists, triathletes and women's basketballers.
