The New Zealand cyclists have had about a week to get used to the velodrome in the Gold Coast ahead of the Commonwealth Games and will have to contend with some intense heat inside the Anna Meares cycling track.
Organisers of the Commonwealth Games have decided that the fans inside the velodrome will be switched off during timed events to give athletes a chance to perform at their best.
New Zealand men's cycling sprinter Ethan Mitchell says he feels for the crowds watching the events.
"I feel sorry for the crowd because it is 31 degrees in there already and it's only going to get warmer when there is how many thousands of people in there," said Mitchell.
"It's going to be pretty intense."
New Zealand women's cycling sprinter Natasha Hansen says the fans aren't ideal for the competitors.
"There is some fans just over the stands obviously for the spectators but there is some big ones in the middle above the velodrome, so it was causing down draft and with our disc wheels - some people were getting caught," said Hansen.
New Zealand's cyclists are used to the Cambridge velodrome where it normally reaches temperatures of 27 degrees and they believe they can handle the heat.
"I think this will be a lot more suitable for us."
