Warriors CEO Cameron George says there were signs the Warriors' sensational start to the year was on the cards during the pre-season, but the team's goal remains giving back to loyal fans who have endured the past few tough seasons.

George told TVNZ1's Breakfast today both management and the players wanted to restore the faith shown by their fan base with strong results week in and week out.

"We've got to make our fans proud, that's our mandate," George said.

"I truly believe we had it in us - in the off season you could see it starting to develop but it's not until you get into the competition that you can measure yourself against other clubs to see how you're going.

"It's about getting our fans back."

George says the off season has played a key role in getting the team, as well as its culture, back on track.

"We're really proud of the playing group and the club staff for jumping in and putting their hands up.

"We've brought into the club a lot of new personnel - some really quality leaders on the park and we've combined them with an already quality group of players. The synergy between those guys is great and they're doing some wonderful things.

"Our staff off the field are working really hard as well. Collectively it's a one team park and on the park, it's coming together."

The Warriors defend their unbeaten start to the season against the Cowboys at Mt Smart Stadium this weekend as the second match of a special double-header being played at the Auckland stadium.

The other match features the Storm playing the Tigers which kicks off at 5pm. The Warriors then play at 7:30pm.
